Dress Code Policy

A high standard of dress encourages respect for individual students and others and results in a high standard of behavior.  Students must arrive to school in dress code.  TLHS reserves the right to interpret these guidelines and/or make changes during the school year. On “blue” Fridays and special occasions as listed in the TLHS Student Planner, the school designates “theme” days (such as American Flag Day, Haitian Flag Day, Professional Day, etc.), when students may pay $1 to be permitted to wear particular non-dress code items of clothing as specified by the administration. At all other times, students must follow the guidelines below:

Shirts

  • Students must wear a solid color polo shirt (no graphics, screen print, or writing may appear on the shirt).
  • Shirts must extend below the  waistband. Shirts may not be worn backwards or inside out.
  • Logos may not exceed the size of a quarter.
  • No “baby-tees” or other non-standard shirts will be allowed.

Pants and Skirts

  • Students must wear pants or shorts (or skirts for girls) that are free from patches, words, pictures, logos, screen print, etc.  Shorts or skirts must reach below mid-thigh.
  • Waistbands must be worn at the waistband.
  • No underwear may show above waistband.
  • Hems may not drag on the ground.

Belts

  • Any pants with belt loops must be worn with a belt. Belts must be worn inside the belt loops.
  • No chains or oversized belts, buckles, ropes, etc., may be worn to hang down from the waistband more than 4 inches.
  • Girls may not wear belts over their uniform shirt.
  • Belts may not exceed two inches wide.

Headgear

  • No headgear may be worn in the building at any time, including hats, scarves or “do-rags.”

Prosthetic Devices and accessories

  • No prosthetic devices or appliances (i.e., gold teeth, grills etc.) unless prescribed by a doctor or dentist.
  • Accessories may not be excessive.

Jackets

  • Any garment worn over the uniform (i.e., jackets, hoodies, vests, sweaters) must be solid in color and free from graphic design or writing.

Female Students

  • Girls may not display cleavage or wear revealing clothing. No “camis” or underwear may show. Shoulders and midriffs must be covered at all times.

  • Appropriate footwear must be worn (no stiletto heels, flip flops, bed slippers, or steel-toed shoes).
